THE HOUSE ON MANGO STREET
The House On Mango Street is a book by Sandra Cisneros. This book is about a girl named Esperanza who was born into a community where she is ashamed of her house because of the way it represents her race, gender and poverty. Many women influence as she goes through stages of maturity. I liked the book because of what it taught young girls who are struggling with men in their lives. THE ABSOLUTELY TRUE DIARY OF A PART-TIME INDIAN
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is a book by Sherman Alexie. This book is about a boy named Junior who grows up in a reservation camp and struggles to try to leave his not so good life in the rez and going to a not so good school to leave and go to a better school outside of the rez leaving his friends behind. I enjoyed the book because of how much it can relate to anyones lives especially starting high school and leaving old friends and going to a brand new school. THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN
The Art of Racing in the Rain is a book by Garth Stein. This book is about a race car driver named Denny. When his wife, Eve is diagnosed with a brain tumor Denny struggles financially, physically and mentally while fighting for custody of his daughter, Zoe. Throughout his journey his dog, Enzo is by his side. We see everything through enzo's eyes and while enzo wishes he could share his thoughts on the world, he can't because although he wishes to be a human, he is still stuck in a dogs body. This was my favorite book we've read all year. I loved it because not only it was very entertaining but also emotional and very meaningful. |
