2016 Election Project
INSPIRATIONS:
What does it mean to be patriotic?
At the very beginning of this project, us as students, were asked a simple question. What does it mean to be patriotic? Seems like a simple and somewhat easy question to answer but there are actually a lot of aspects that need to be considered. We were shown a series of pictures and were asked if we thought that represented patriotism for that specific time period. Throughout this exercise we discovered what each one of us believes is patriotic and why.
Project Description:
2016 is a BIG year, and I mean HUGE. As polarizing as this election has been, we are all in an agreement that the 2016 ELECTION is a very unique and interesting circumstance. In our class, the many Who, What, Why, and How this election came to be will be studied and even investigated.
This project has taught us as soon to be voters, to stand for our opinion as well as being educated and informed.

Personal piece:
We entered a KPBS contest where we were supposed to write a letter to our future president. The letter was about a topic we felt need to be addressed.

Self Reflection:
This whole project has taught us to be educated voters. To me, that means someone who is aware and informed and voting for who they think will actually help our country. No matter who you vote for you should always know what they stand for, not just their name and persona. I honestly think this project was more on the difficult side for me. It was a lot of work at once and having to research a third party candidate was harder because there wasn't as much information floating around. But researching everywhere was all we could do so thats what we did, and eventually we found everything we needed. Before this project started, I hated the fact we were going to have to do it. I hated politics. After this project I've come to realize how important everyones say is and how our government works. Slowly I started to find myself correcting people if they said something that wasn't true. Election night I found myself crying and not even all personal reason, but because I realized what a big deal this was for not only me but everyone else in the country. I've gone from a position of just hearing about it to actually caring and having a huge opinion on it. This election was not what I had hoped for at all. I am upset but I've realized America always has recession periods and I hope this will be short and not too painful for everyone.
Exhibition Reflection:
Overall, the exhibition was the final product of our project besides our debate. I thought it was a success a lot of people came to see and I hope we encouraged many to get out and vote as well as teaching them everything they need to know about the possible candidates. The debate went good as well. Everyone was super prepared and focused on what they were doing instead of focusing on the fact we were standing on a stage in front of half the school. We all stayed in character really well and had a lot of fun with it. I know high schoolers can often not take things like that seriously and I'm happy that all of us debating were able to take on the responsibility no matter what the audience was doing.
